Musk Denies Exit From Trump Admin
Conflicting reports emerged on Wednesday regarding Elon Musk's future in the Trump administration. According to a Politico article citing sources close to President Donald Trump, Musk is expected to step down from his role as a special government employee in late May or early June. The report stated that Trump and Musk had agreed on this timeline, and while Musk would leave his formal position, he might still serve informally as an advisor.
The unnamed sources described Musk's tenure leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) as efficient and productive, adding that both parties viewed the transition as a natural step for Musk to return to his business ventures. One source emphasized that it would be unrealistic to believe Musk would fully separate from Trump's sphere of influence.
However, the White House swiftly denied the report. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt took to X to reject the Politico article, calling it “garbage.” She stated, “Elon Musk and President Trump have both *publicly* stated that Elon will depart from public service as a special government employee when his incredible work at DOGE is complete.”
Elon Musk himself responded to Leavitt’s post, echoing the denial with a brief remark: “Yeah, fake news.” His comment appeared to dismiss the notion of an imminent departure altogether.
The back-and-forth has left the public and media observers uncertain about Musk’s exact timeline in government. While the official position remains that Musk will stay until his work concludes, the emergence of conflicting narratives suggests that behind-the-scenes decisions may still be evolving.
For now, Musk continues in his role heading DOGE, and any future changes, if planned, have yet to be officially confirmed beyond speculative sources.
