White House Denies Musk Exit Report
The White House has rejected claims made in a recent Politico article suggesting that Elon Musk is preparing to leave his role as a government partner under President Donald Trump. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt issued a firm denial on Wednesday, calling the report “garbage” in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Leavitt stated that both Musk and President Trump have already publicly clarified Musk’s position. According to Leavitt, Musk will step down from his special government employee status only after concluding his responsibilities at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
“This ‘scoop’ is garbage,” Leavitt wrote. “Elon Musk and President Trump have both *publicly* stated that Elon will depart from public service as a special government employee when his incredible work at DOGE is complete.”
Politico’s original report had cited unnamed sources within Trump’s inner circle, claiming Musk was expected to formally exit between late May and early June. The article also suggested that Musk and Trump had mutually agreed upon the transition, though it noted Musk might remain involved as an informal advisor.
One source quoted in the Politico piece added that it would be unrealistic to think Musk would completely sever ties with the Trump administration. However, the White House’s swift response aims to put to rest any speculation regarding the timing or nature of Musk’s departure.
This latest development underscores the close coordination between Musk and the Trump administration, especially in efforts surrounding the Department of Government Efficiency. While future changes may still occur, current statements reaffirm Musk’s ongoing role—at least for now.
