Trump Losing Patience with Putin
Finland’s President Alexander Stubb stated on Monday that U.S. President Donald Trump is running out of patience with Russian President Vladimir Putin, asserting that Trump is the only person capable of securing a ceasefire in Ukraine. Stubb made the comments in an interview with Sky News following his visit to Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence.
“Trump is the key figure who can push this forward,” Stubb noted, emphasizing the urgency of a negotiated end to the ongoing war. He urged setting a concrete deadline for the ceasefire, suggesting April 20 as a practical target date.
“But that deadline must be combined with a really tough stick,” Stubb added, pointing to Senator Lindsey Graham’s proposal, which is supported by over 50 U.S. senators. The proposal includes a massive sanctions package against Russia, to be imposed if Moscow fails to agree to a ceasefire deal.
Stubb reiterated that one of Trump’s top priorities is to establish peace in Ukraine. According to the Finnish president, the U.S. leader is committed to ending the conflict and views Russia as the primary obstacle to reaching an agreement. “It is clear that peace is a goal for Trump, and Putin’s resistance is the main problem,” Stubb emphasized.
The Finnish president’s remarks underscore growing international pressure on Moscow as Western leaders intensify their efforts to bring an end to the war. By aligning with Trump and signaling bipartisan support in the U.S. Senate, Stubb aims to leverage diplomatic and economic tools to force progress in peace negotiations.
With momentum building for a defined ceasefire timeline and potential consequences for noncompliance, the proposed April 20 deadline could become a focal point for international diplomacy in the coming weeks. Stubb’s statement reflects a coordinated push among allies to end the conflict through firm and unified action.
