Netanyahu Pushes Iran Plan, Warns on Turkey

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with United States President Donald Trump at the White House on Monday to discuss a range of regional security issues. Among the top priorities was Netanyahu’s proposal for a new nuclear agreement with Iran, modeled on the so-called 'Libya model' that calls for the complete dismantling of Tehran’s nuclear program.

According to Israeli officials, Netanyahu intended to present his vision of 'what a good deal should look like' during the closed-door meeting. This comes after reports emerged that President Trump had previously sent a message to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in March, outlining a two-month window for nuclear negotiations.

The two leaders did not hold a formal press conference but chose to entertain questions from journalists in the Oval Office. The meeting agenda included discussions on the ongoing conflict in Gaza between Israel and Hamas, as well as rising tensions with Iran.

Another significant topic raised by Netanyahu was the potential U.S. sale of F-35 fighter jets to Turkey. Citing security concerns, Netanyahu reportedly urged the U.S. to reconsider any such deal. The Israeli leader had already voiced opposition to the sale in conversations with Secretary of State Marco Rubio throughout March and April. Israeli concerns are rooted in Turkey’s growing military activity in Syria, where Israeli forces have conducted strikes on what they describe as hostile targets.

Turkey responded to these Israeli actions by labeling the country 'the greatest threat to the security of our region.' Netanyahu’s appeal to block arms sales to Ankara is viewed as part of a broader effort to limit Turkey’s influence in the region.

As geopolitical tensions continue to simmer across the Middle East, the meeting between Trump and Netanyahu marks a strategic checkpoint in shaping future U.S.-Israeli cooperation on nuclear nonproliferation and defense strategy in the region.
