Zelensky Calls for Stronger US Support
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has issued a strong warning about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s intentions to sow division between Europe and the United States. Speaking at a press conference following the Ukraine summit in Paris, Zelensky stated, “Undoubtedly, America is important, very important, and its decisions can impact the end of the war and to end Putin's desire to divide Europe and America.”
Zelensky urged a firmer American stance toward Russia, asserting that U.S. influence could play a decisive role in ending the war. He also revealed that Ukraine has received numerous proposals from countries willing to provide security guarantees, either through aerial support or the deployment of troops on the ground.
In a separate address on Wednesday, Zelensky discussed complications surrounding a minerals agreement with the United States. He noted that the U.S. has been “constantly” changing the terms of the deal, but emphasized that Ukraine does not oppose the agreement or its strategic relationship with Washington. “But I wouldn't like to leave the United States with the feeling that Ukraine is against them in general, because we have shown constantly [that we're] sending positive signals,” Zelensky stated. “We are in favor of the cooperation with the United States of America.”
Tensions escalated just moments before the scheduled signing of the minerals deal, when Zelensky reportedly had a confrontation with U.S. President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance at the White House. Zelensky left before the official signing took place, raising questions about the future of the agreement.
The developments highlight growing strains in the U.S.-Ukraine relationship even as both nations continue to share common interests in countering Russian aggression. Zelensky’s message underscores the importance of unity among allies and calls for renewed clarity and strength in America’s global leadership role.
