Vance Backs Trade Deal and Ukraine Peace

United States Vice President JD Vance announced on Tuesday that the US and India have finalized the terms of reference for a new trade agreement. The announcement was made during his official four-day visit to India, where he addressed a public audience and later held a closed-door meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Vance emphasized that the deal marks the beginning of deeper bilateral cooperation, with the two countries agreeing to jointly produce defense equipment. He encouraged India to increase its purchases of American military hardware and also highlighted collaboration on energy and technological initiatives. “I think that our nations have so much to gain by investing in one another,” Vance said, describing the emerging partnership as a 'win-win'.

He also conveyed President Donald Trump’s position on global trade, stating that the president intends to ‘rebalance global trade’ through a system based on fairness and reciprocity.

On the international stage, Vance addressed the ongoing war in Ukraine. In a press briefing, he called for a negotiated end to the conflict, stressing the need for territorial concessions from both Russia and Ukraine. “There must be compromise on both sides,” he stated, urging diplomatic resolution over continued warfare.

In the same briefing, Vance offered unequivocal support for Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth amid recent leaks of sensitive military information. He affirmed that he has “100% confidence” in Hegseth’s leadership and decision-making.

The vice president's trip to India underscores the strengthening of strategic alliances and his pivotal role in shaping foreign policy under President Trump’s administration.
