Netanyahu, Trump to Talk Gaza and Tariffs
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has landed in the United States ahead of a scheduled meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump. The meeting is set for Monday, April 7, and will focus on key issues including the ongoing situation in Gaza and recently introduced tariff measures.
Speaking before his departure from Israel, Netanyahu emphasized the importance of the talks, highlighting both the personal rapport he shares with President Trump and the strategic alliance between their two countries. “This reflects the special personal connection and the special connection between the United States and Israel, which is so vital at this time,” he said. Notably, Netanyahu will be the first foreign leader to meet with Trump about the tariffs following the announcement of reciprocal duties.
Upon arrival at Joint Base Andrews near Washington D.C., Netanyahu proceeded in a convoy to the Blair House, where he is expected to meet with U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. The Times of Israel reports that the talks will include discussion on trade issues impacting both nations, as well as geopolitical concerns centered around Gaza.
Joining Netanyahu in the United States is Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer, who is also scheduled to participate in high-level meetings with senior White House officials. These talks are expected to further solidify bilateral coordination on both economic and regional security matters.
The visit underscores the ongoing cooperation between the United States and Israel, particularly during a time of increased tension and economic recalibration. With Gaza tensions rising and tariff measures coming into effect, the outcomes of these meetings may influence key diplomatic and trade decisions in the coming weeks.
