Trump: Security Strong After Chat Leak

President Donald Trump on Tuesday asserted that the national security of the United States is “stronger than it’s ever been,” despite an embarrassing mishap involving a group chat used to coordinate a military strike against Yemen’s Houthi movement. The chat, which included senior defense and intelligence officials, reportedly also involved journalists added by mistake.

Speaking to reporters at the White House following the signing of several executive orders, Trump emphasized that no classified information was disclosed in the chat. He insisted that the incident had no negative effect on operations, stating that the strike on the Houthis was “a tremendous success.”

“Nothing happened,” Trump said, brushing off concerns related to the accidental inclusion of journalists. He praised the performance of the relevant defense departments and their leadership, asserting their competence in managing national security issues.

However, the president acknowledged that the situation raised concerns about the use of the Signal messaging app for sensitive communications. He suggested that its future use should be reconsidered, given the breach in operational integrity.

National Security Adviser Mike Waltz confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine how a group of journalists ended up in a digital conversation intended for top U.S. officials. The probe aims to identify whether the incident was the result of user error or a deeper systemic flaw.

The revelation comes amid broader discussions in Washington about information security and the appropriate platforms for interagency coordination. While the administration insists no critical information was compromised, the occurrence underscores the importance of communication safeguards at the highest levels of government.
