Spain Unveils €14.1B Plan vs Trump Tariffs
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has unveiled a comprehensive €14.1 billion Trade Response and Relaunch Plan in response to the tariffs introduced by U.S. President Donald Trump. The plan, revealed during a speech at La Moncloa, aims to protect Spain’s economy from the fallout of the escalating trade tensions initiated by the Trump administration.
"Today, we will deploy the Trade Response and Relaunch Plan designed to mitigate the negative impacts of this trade war initiated by the Trump administration and weave a shield to protect our economy," Sanchez declared.
The initiative is split between €7.4 billion in new capital and €6.7 billion from pre-existing financial tools. A significant portion of the funding will be directed toward key economic sectors most vulnerable to U.S. tariffs. Among the highlights of the plan is a €200 million fund earmarked specifically for industrial investments. Additionally, €400 million has been allocated in aid to support Spain’s automotive industry, which is expected to be heavily impacted by the imposed duties.
This strategic financial response signals Spain's commitment to defending its industries and economy from foreign policy decisions that have ripple effects on international markets. Sanchez emphasized the need for proactive measures to reinforce national economic resilience while navigating through uncertain global trade dynamics.
The Trade Response and Relaunch Plan represents one of Spain’s most significant economic interventions in recent years, aligning financial mobilization with long-term industrial and economic protection.
