Iran Tells Europe: Don’t Back U.S. Sanctions
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baghaei on Friday strongly criticized European nations for supporting the United States’ sanctions policy against Tehran. He called the sanctions “illegal” and “inhumane,” and warned Europe not to align itself with Washington’s approach. “We urge European governments not to follow these unjust and hostile policies,” Baghaei stated during a press briefing.
Baghaei condemned the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Canada for endorsing an anti-Iran resolution at the United Nations. He claimed the resolution was “based on malice [and] unsubstantiated claims,” suggesting it lacked credible justification and was politically motivated. The Iranian government views such actions as deliberate efforts to isolate the country on the international stage.
The spokesman specifically called out Germany and the United Kingdom as “main providers of arms to the Zionist regime,” referring to Israel. He criticized what he described as Western hypocrisy, arguing that countries supplying military equipment to Israel while condemning Iran’s policies demonstrate a double standard.
This latest statement from Tehran comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and growing scrutiny of Western countries' involvement in regional conflicts. Iran has long opposed international sanctions, especially those led by the United States, viewing them as tools of economic warfare rather than legitimate diplomatic pressure.
Baghaei’s remarks underscore Iran’s frustration with the current international climate and signal a firm rejection of further sanctions or diplomatic isolation. His comments are likely to fuel ongoing debates in European capitals over the bloc’s approach to Iran, particularly as U.S.-led measures continue to strain global alliances.
As the situation develops, observers will be watching closely to see whether European governments reconsider their positions or maintain alignment with the U.S. on Iran-related policies.
