Trump Urges Calm Amid Rising US-China Tensions

United States President Donald Trump addressed the nation on Wednesday through a post on Truth Social, calling for calm amid escalating global trade tensions. “BE COOL,” Trump wrote, assuring the public that “everything is going to work out well.” He added confidently, “The USA will be bigger and better than ever before!”

The president’s remarks came on the same day the U.S. imposed new reciprocal tariffs on Chinese goods, which took effect at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time. The tariffs, raised to 104%, mark a significant escalation in the ongoing trade dispute between the two economic giants.

In swift response, China announced it would raise its own tariffs on American imports from 34% to 84%, effective April 10. The Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism also issued a travel risk alert for Chinese citizens planning to visit the United States. Citing the deteriorating state of China-U.S. economic and trade relations and rising security concerns within the U.S., the ministry urged citizens to fully assess travel risks and exercise caution.

The European Union has joined the fray, announcing that it too will raise tariffs on certain U.S. sectors. The EU’s retaliatory duties are scheduled to go into effect on April 15. While specific industries affected have not yet been disclosed, EU officials made it clear the measures are a direct response to Washington’s escalating trade actions.

Trump, however, remains optimistic that the U.S. economy will continue to grow stronger despite the mounting international pushback. His administration’s stance is that these aggressive tariff measures are necessary to rebalance trade and protect American industries.

As global economic tensions mount, world leaders and financial markets are keeping a close watch on how the situation will evolve. Trump's message, aiming to instill confidence and calm, underscores his belief in the resilience of the U.S. economy and the ultimate success of his trade strategy.
