Trump Stresses Neutrality, Talks Russia Pressure

United States President Donald Trump emphasized on Thursday that he maintains "no allegiance to anybody" in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. Speaking during discussions with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store at the Oval Office, Trump stated, "Very simply, I have no allegiance to anybody. I have allegiance to saving lives, I want to save a lot of lives."

When asked about additional sanctions against Russia, Trump responded that more details would be shared within a week. "You have no idea what pressure I’m putting on Russia. We're putting a lot of pressure on Russia," he asserted.

In a joint press conference, Trump also addressed the situation in Crimea, suggesting that Ukraine faces a very challenging path in reclaiming the territory. He remarked, "We'll do the best we can, but they've lost a lot of territory," pointing out that Crimea was effectively lost during former President Barack Obama’s administration. Asked whether Ukraine should cede territory, Trump replied, "depends what territory." Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed that Washington did not start the Ukraine conflict and should not be forced to extend it indefinitely.

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, during his visit, emphasized the crucial role of US involvement in advancing peace efforts. Store thanked Trump for making significant progress possible and stressed that achieving a ceasefire requires pressure on both Ukraine and Russia, followed by more complex negotiations to fully end the war. He warned that the continuation of such a broad conflict poses a serious risk to Europe as a whole.
