Trump Revokes Biden, Harris Clearances
US President Donald Trump issued a sweeping directive on Friday, revoking security clearances for Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and a host of political rivals, effectively stripping them of access to classified information. The list of those targeted includes former Secretary of State Antony Blinken, former Representatives Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, New York Attorney General Letitia James, and Biden’s entire family.
“I have determined that it is no longer in the national interest for the following individuals to access classified information,” Trump declared in the memo. He also directed all executive department and agency heads to revoke their unescorted access to secure government facilities.
The move marks a dramatic escalation in Trump’s efforts to retaliate against his political enemies. Letitia James and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, both of whom led legal proceedings against Trump during Biden's presidency, were included in the clearance revocations. Trump also named Fiona Hill and Alexander Vindman, both of whom testified against him during his first impeachment, and lawyer Norman Eisen, who oversaw impeachment proceedings.
This development follows a previous announcement from Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard earlier in the month. Gabbard stated she had already revoked clearances for many of the same individuals, as well as for the 51 former intelligence officials who signed a letter casting doubt on the Hunter Biden laptop story, suggesting it was likely Russian disinformation.
Trump’s revocation of Joe Biden’s intelligence access is widely viewed as retaliation for a 2021 move in which Biden barred Trump from receiving classified briefings, citing concerns over his erratic behavior.
In a related decision earlier this week, Trump ordered an immediate end to Secret Service protection for Biden’s children, Hunter and Ashley. Reports indicated that 18 agents had accompanied Hunter Biden on a trip to South Africa, while 13 were assigned to Ashley Biden. Trump criticized the coverage and revoked their protection.
The Friday memo outlined the scope of the ban, stating that it included—but was not limited to—receiving classified briefings such as the President’s Daily Brief and accessing intelligence community information. The action appears to reflect a curated list of Trump’s most prominent critics and adversaries across both parties.
Republicans Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, both of whom served on the January 6 Committee investigating the Capitol riots, were also included in the list. Trump has repeatedly targeted them for their roles in holding him accountable for the insurrection.
Meanwhile, NBC News reported that Joe and Jill Biden recently offered to help the Democratic Party rebuild and fundraise following Kamala Harris’s defeat in the presidential election. The offer, made to newly appointed Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin, has not yet been accepted, according to the network.
Trump’s latest move signals a continued political offensive against those he views as disloyal or adversarial, further inflaming partisan tensions in the lead-up to future elections and ongoing legal battles.
