Trump, Putin Agree on Dialogue Value

Russian President Vladimir Putin and United States President Donald Trump share the belief that avoiding diplomatic dialogue is 'absurd,' according to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov. Speaking to Le Point magazine, Peskov emphasized that although the two leaders do not agree on all issues, they are aligned on the importance of maintaining communication between global powers.

“In some areas their positions are close, but this does not mean that they agree on everything,” Peskov noted. “Each of them defends, first and foremost, the interests of their country. What unites them is that they both understand the absurdity of refusing dialogue.”

Peskov stated that Russia will continue to pursue its national objectives, whether through peaceful negotiations or military means. He also criticized Europe’s stance, saying it currently favors conflict over constructive talks. “We won’t force them to negotiate,” he said, highlighting Moscow’s disillusionment with Europe’s approach.

The comments underscore a key area of alignment between the U.S. and Russian presidents, even amid broader tensions and policy differences. While the specifics of their common ground remain limited, the mutual recognition of diplomacy’s necessity marks a rare public consensus between the two leaders.

This comes at a time of strained relations between Russia and Western allies, with dialogue channels narrowing. The Kremlin’s message appears aimed at reinforcing the value of engagement while projecting Russia’s resolve in shaping outcomes, whether diplomatically or otherwise.
