Trump Picks Dr. Monarez to Lead CDC

United States President Donald Trump has officially nominated Dr. Susan Monarez to serve as the permanent director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Monarez has been serving as the acting director of the agency since January and will now await Senate confirmation to assume the role permanently.

President Trump emphasized the need for change within the CDC, citing concerns over public trust. “Americans have lost confidence in the CDC due to political bias and disastrous mismanagement,” he stated. Trump praised Monarez as a “dedicated public servant,” highlighting her leadership during her interim tenure at the agency.

In his announcement, the president also noted that Monarez would work closely with the newly appointed Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert Kennedy Jr. “She will work closely with our GREAT Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert Kennedy Jr.,” Trump said.

The decision to nominate Monarez comes amid efforts by the Trump administration to overhaul the CDC and reshape its role in federal public health strategy. Monarez, a seasoned public health official, is expected to lead reforms aimed at increasing transparency, rebuilding public trust, and ensuring scientific integrity.

Her nomination marks a significant moment in the administration’s broader strategy to reestablish public confidence in U.S. health institutions following criticisms surrounding the agency’s past handling of national health emergencies.

The Senate confirmation process will determine whether Monarez assumes the position on a permanent basis. Until then, she will continue to serve as acting director and manage the CDC’s operational and strategic initiatives under the current administration.
