Trump Eyes Ukraine Peace, Russia Welcomes NATO Shift
United States President Donald Trump expressed optimism that Russia and Ukraine could finalize a peace agreement within the week. Speaking via posts on TruthSocial, Trump shared his belief that such a deal would pave the way for both nations to 'start to do big business' with the United States. He also underscored his economic principles, citing what he called the 'golden rule of negotiation and success: he who has the gold makes the rules.'
Trump took the opportunity to criticize businessmen who oppose tariffs, calling them 'bad at business, but really bad at politics.' He reaffirmed his pro-capitalist stance, claiming, 'They don't understand or realize that I'm the greatest friend American capitalism has ever had.'
Simultaneously, a significant diplomatic development emerged from Moscow. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov welcomed recent statements by U.S. officials indicating that Ukraine’s membership in NATO is no longer under consideration. 'We have heard from Washington at various levels that Ukraine's membership in NATO is out of the question. And, of course, this is something that satisfies us and coincides with our position,' Peskov said during a press briefing.
He reiterated that Ukraine joining NATO would pose a serious threat to Russian national interests and security, which has been one of the central issues driving the ongoing conflict. Peskov also affirmed that President Vladimir Putin remains open to negotiating a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
The combined developments signal a potential turning point in the prolonged Russia-Ukraine conflict, with diplomatic signals from both Washington and Moscow suggesting a softening of previous hardline positions. Trump’s encouragement of a settlement and Russia’s satisfaction with the NATO stance may provide an opening for renewed dialogue and economic rebuilding efforts.
