Trump Blames Leaders, Plans Ukraine Peace Proposal
United States President Donald Trump stated on Monday that all key figures involved in the Ukraine conflict bear responsibility, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and former U.S. President Joe Biden. “That is a war that should have never been allowed to start,” Trump told reporters, adding, “Millions of people died because of three people.” He named Putin as the primary figure to blame, followed by Biden and then Zelensky.
Trump criticized Zelensky’s role in the conflict, saying he “did a horrible job” in allowing the war to break out. Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump reiterated that the war was “Biden’s war,” not his own, and stressed that his administration is working “diligently” to end the conflict. He promised that “very good proposals” are coming “very soon.”
The comments followed a weekend interview where Zelensky warned that Russian narratives are gaining traction in the U.S. and urged Trump to support Ukraine more clearly, stating, “It is wrong that America wants to be neutral.” Zelensky also emphasized that the U.S. has sent about $175 billion in aid, most of it military, with $100 billion spent on American-made weapons.
Meanwhile, Russia shelled a passenger train in Semenivka, in Ukraine’s Chernihiv region, just 30 minutes before its departure. One carriage was damaged, but no passengers were onboard at the time, and no injuries were reported, according to regional governor Vyacheslav Chaus.
On the European front, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas announced that the bloc is preparing its 17th package of sanctions against Russia, focusing on economic and logistical pressure. “We are working on the shadow fleet and different elements,” she said. Kallas also addressed the Gaza conflict, saying Israel has a right to self-defense but criticized current actions as disproportionate.
In Moscow, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov accused European leaders of deliberately avoiding peace efforts in Ukraine. He said new German government plans to provide long-range Taurus missiles “will only escalate” the conflict.
As geopolitical tensions grow, President Trump’s pledge of forthcoming peace proposals could play a key role in shaping the direction of the ongoing conflict and future diplomacy.
