Trump Admin Chat on Yemen Strike Leaked
The Atlantic magazine has released the complete contents of a private Signal chat involving senior officials from the Trump administration, including President Donald Trump, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. The chat was mistakenly shared with The Atlantic's editor-in-chief, Jeffrey Goldberg.
The leaked conversation provides a detailed account of a recent U.S. strike against the Houthi militant group in Yemen. Among the participants were Hegseth and Vice President JD Vance, who discussed the timeline of the operation and its broader implications. Vance expressed concern over a potential surge in oil prices resulting from escalating tensions in the Red Sea.
Hegseth, in the chat, emphasized that “nobody knows who the Houthis are” and recommended framing the strike as a response to Iran’s support for the Houthis. He also criticized the Biden administration for failing to eliminate the threat in the Red Sea region. The messages appear to reflect a coordinated communication strategy within the Trump team aimed at shaping public perception.
Following the release, Trump, Gabbard, and Hegseth stated that the chat did not contain any classified information. The publication has intensified scrutiny over internal administration communications and messaging tactics concerning Middle East policy.
