Russia May Meet with CIA Chief

Russian Foreign Intelligence Service Director Sergey Naryshkin said on Thursday that a meeting with United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director John Ratcliffe could take place in the future. The remarks came during an interview with Russia’s state news agency TASS, where Naryshkin discussed the current state of intelligence cooperation between the two countries.

Naryshkin revealed that he and Ratcliffe had already held a 'very constructive' phone conversation, which he described as productive and professional. As a result of that dialogue, he indicated that a face-to-face meeting could happen, though no date or location has yet been set.

'I do not rule out the possibility of a meeting,' Naryshkin stated. He emphasized that current contacts between Russian and American intelligence agencies are positive, in contrast to previous years. 'This is in sharp contrast with what the previous US administration was doing,' he added, suggesting a more cooperative tone under the current U.S. leadership.

The comment marks a notable shift in rhetoric, as relations between U.S. and Russian intelligence agencies have often been defined by tension and mistrust. Naryshkin’s openness to dialogue is being seen as a potential thaw in communication channels amid ongoing global security concerns.

While intelligence meetings between such high-ranking officials are rare and typically confidential, any such engagement would signal a significant moment in the current diplomatic landscape. It remains to be seen whether this tentative outreach leads to renewed coordination or remains limited to high-level exploratory contact.
