Putin-Trump Meeting Planned
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed on Sunday that a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and United States President Donald Trump is being planned. Speaking to Russian state television, Peskov said the meeting will happen at an “appropriate time,” and that both presidents have publicly expressed their political will to meet face-to-face.
“This meeting will take place. The presidents expressed their political will that it should take place, including doing so publicly,” Peskov stated. “But it will take place at the appropriate time. We need to prepare for it,” he emphasized. Peskov also noted that Putin’s recent meeting with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff on Friday marked a step toward the planned summit with Trump.
In the same interview, Peskov addressed US-Ukraine relations, claiming that the Ukrainian government is not aligning well with the Trump administration. “The thing is that the Kiev regime is not really 'clicking' with Washington, their affairs don't really 'click.' And we see that such disgusting behavior by representatives of the Kiev regime does not exactly appeal to the current Trump administration,” Peskov remarked.
Earlier in the week, the White House acknowledged President Trump’s frustration with both Russia and Ukraine regarding their stance on ceasefire negotiations. However, Trump later suggested that talks between the two countries “might be going ok,” indicating a more cautiously optimistic view of the diplomatic process.
The expected meeting between Putin and Trump may play a pivotal role in shaping the geopolitical landscape surrounding the Ukraine conflict. As both leaders prepare for direct engagement, global attention is focused on whether the summit will bring new momentum toward de-escalation and diplomacy.
