Musk: DOGE Can Cut 15% of Spending

Elon Musk announced on Thursday that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has the capacity to reduce federal spending by 15% while still maintaining all essential government operations. The statement comes as part of a preview for his upcoming interview with Fox News anchor Bret Baier, scheduled to air at 6:00 p.m. ET.

“At a high level, we want to reduce the spending by eliminating waste and reduce the spending by 15%. The government is not efficient and there is a lot of waste and fraud,” Musk said.

According to Musk, the department’s broader goal includes cutting the national deficit by $1 trillion. This would involve bringing total federal spending down from $7 trillion to $6 trillion. He emphasized that these reductions would come through streamlining bureaucracy, reducing inefficiencies, and rooting out fraudulent practices without compromising the core functions of the federal government.

Musk's remarks are expected to fuel ongoing debates about fiscal responsibility and the role of technology and private-sector practices in reforming government operations. As a leading voice in both business and public policy, his proposals are likely to draw both support and criticism across political and economic circles.

The DOGE initiative, under Musk's guidance, appears poised to become a cornerstone of broader efforts to overhaul federal spending, aligning with the current administration’s push for accountability and efficiency in public spending.
