Macron Calls for Tariff Reversal and Gaza Aid

French President Emmanuel Macron, speaking during a visit to Egypt on Tuesday, emphasized two pressing priorities for France and the broader European Union: reversing US tariffs and restoring humanitarian aid to Gaza. Macron stated that the primary objective in dealing with recent US tariffs is to reach an outcome where US President Donald Trump revokes the measure. He added that if negotiations fail, a firm European response would follow.

"France and Europe have never wanted chaos," Macron said, highlighting the bloc’s preference for diplomacy while also underlining that France is prepared to protect its economic sectors if necessary. He reiterated France’s commitment to defending its national industries in the event that tariff discussions with the US collapse.

Turning to the Middle East, Macron declared the resumption of humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip as a “top priority.” He described the situation as “unbearable and unprecedented,” and called for the swift delivery of international aid to the region. Macron’s remarks come amid international concern over deteriorating conditions in Gaza, where food, medical, and basic supplies are critically low.

Israel has recently denied any plans to resume aid delivery, stating that it will not support Hamas. Macron acknowledged this tension but maintained that the international community must prioritize humanitarian efforts regardless of political obstacles.

Macron also strongly condemned a recent attack on humanitarian workers and paramedics in the region, saying, “We strongly condemn these attacks, and the truth must be uncovered properly.” He called for a thorough investigation into the incident and stressed the importance of accountability in conflict zones.

His statements in Cairo underline France’s dual-track foreign policy approach: advocating for constructive international trade relations while taking a firm stance on global humanitarian crises. As both the tariff and Gaza aid issues remain unresolved, Macron's diplomatic tour continues to draw attention across Europe and beyond.
