EPA Cancels $2B Grant After Trump’s Demand
The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has revoked a $2 billion grant awarded during the Biden administration to a non-governmental organization (NGO) associated with politician and activist Stacey Abrams. The decision, announced Thursday by EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, follows scrutiny initiated by current President Donald Trump.
Zeldin stated that the grant, originally approved when Joe Biden was in office, is now frozen and under investigation by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). He expressed outrage at the original allocation, writing on X: “The DOJ/FBI are investigating, and the money has been frozen. It is insane that the Biden Admin would give $2B to an organization that previously only received $100!”
The revocation came shortly after President Trump questioned the legitimacy of the grant in a post on his TruthSocial platform. Trump raised concerns about how a previously small-scale organization allegedly received such a massive sum. He urged the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to conduct a full investigation into the matter.
In the same TruthSocial post, Trump also called for DOGE to examine a separate $8 million payment reportedly made to Politico, a media outlet he described as aligned with the “Radical Left.” He labeled the payment as another questionable decision by the previous administration and demanded that the money be recovered immediately.
The developments have intensified discussions around federal spending oversight and political favoritism in funding allocations. Trump’s re-elected administration is signaling a clampdown on what it views as inappropriate use of taxpayer money under the Biden era. As investigations by DOJ and FBI continue, public and political attention remains focused on financial transparency and the reassessment of grants and subsidies made in previous years.
